Socio-economic losses of Ukraine from traffic accidents amount to approximately 3.4% of GDP
According to the world Bank, socio-economic losses of Ukraine from the consequences of road accidents are estimated at $ 4500000000 in the year.
At the briefing, dedicated to the Week of road safety, said the head of the medical Department of the Ministry of health Andrey Gavrilyuk.
“A large number of accidents and victims of road accidents affect the economy of Ukraine. By calculations of experts of the world Bank, socio-economic losses of Ukraine from traffic accidents are estimated at 4500000000 US dollars per year, which is about 3.4% of GDP. It’s calculations for 2014, including material costs associated with damage to property and productivity losses and human casualties due to injury or death in an accident, ” said Gavrilyuk.
Among the reasons that lead to road accidents in the first place is excess by drivers of speed – 39%, disorder of pedestrian crossings – 38%, violation of right of way at a crossroads – 30%. On the fourth place among the causes of accidents, according to Gavrilyuk, the management of vehicles in an alcohol intoxication.
He noted that to improve the situation on the part of the Ministry of health is now considering the issue of harmonization with EU legislation and national standards medical examinations of candidates for drivers of vehicles, organize the order of preventive narcological examinations, the mandatory preliminary and periodic psychiatric examinations of candidates for drivers and drivers of vehicles .
In addition, said the representative of the Ministry of health, will develop the system of medical examinations of drivers of vehicles which provide services for the carriage of passengers and goods and advanced system of training drivers in the skills of rendering pre-medical assistance in the event of an accident.
