Russian military Advisor captain Nicholas Afanasov died in Syria as a result of a mortar attack militants, said on Tuesday the defense Ministry.
“Nicholas Afanasov was in Syrian Arab Republic in the structure of the apparatus of the Russian military advisers, performing the task of training the personnel of the units of the Syrian army”, – said in the defense Ministry.
According to the defense Ministry, the incident occurred in the province of Hama militants staged a sudden mortar shelling of the town Syrian government troops.
The defense Ministry said Afanasov presents the command to the state award posthumously.
