“Destructive” ex-Ambassador of Russia to Belarus Babich was appointed Deputy Minister of the twelfth

Former Russian Ambassador in Belarus Mikhail Babich is appointed Deputy Minister of economic development of Russia. This is stated in the decree of the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev from June 15, published today on the government website. In his new role, Babic will be engaged in integration processes, said the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

He declined to answer the question whether the new appointment of Babich down for him. “Babich will largely continue to address integration issues. Of course, he will have many other powers and responsibilities. But what we know is he will be largely involved in the coordination and organization of integration work that is extremely important. Mikhail Babich was Ambassador of Russia to Belarus from August 24, 2018 to 30 апреля2019 th. In a short period of service in this position, he managed to arouse Minsk persistent hostility and irritation. In mid-April, the foreign Ministry of Belarus accused Babic in an attempt to destroy friendly relations between the two brotherly peoples. The head of information and digital diplomacy of the Belarusian foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz said that the Russian diplomat “successfully” managed to have a negative effect on relations between Moscow and Minsk “just a few months,” which could not “external forces over the last few decades.” Eye also noted that Babich “sees no difference” between the Russian Federal district and independent state (former Ambassador previously served as the Plenipotentiary representative of RF President in Volga Federal district).

He traveled around Belarus, visited local businesses, spoke with the business and the Belarusian opposition. According to the newspaper, the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly and personally asked Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to withdraw Babych.
