Very interesting to see how will perform in the Russian box office the horror movie turned-filmmakers of the African-American comedian Jordan Saw “Off” (Get Out).

On the one hand, in the USA this tape has become a sensation: the box office more than exceeded fees of another recent genre hit “Split” by M. night Shyamalan and to date amount to 173 million dollars; plus, the picture caused a storm of enthusiasm from critics, receiving an incredibly high average rating on resources like Rotten Tomatoes. A classic of the genre, Creator of the famous “the Exorcist”, William Friedkin called the film Saw “great horror movie”. In General the movie is like absolutely everything: the audience, the critics, the masters of the genre.

On the other hand, many believe that the success of “Off” in the US is associated primarily with the fact that his shaft went to the African-American audience. It turned out that among blacks – a lot of fans of the genre, and “Off” was able to lure them to the theaters. In fact, neither the Drink nor the producer Jason bloom and did not conceal that their film addresses the topic of racism. How relevant it may be for the Russian audience? On this account there was doubt. Including so far not once the decision was made to do to release the “Away” in theatrical release in the States. “Split”, which is “Off” measure despite the fact that they are completely different movies in completely different topics were used in our area is very popular (nearly 570 million rubles cash at the moment), which was a surprise. Repeat if the film Saw the movie Shyamalan is at least partly?..

Hopefully, Yes, just because “Away” is better than “Split”. And I’m not kidding. May 6, the film will be shown in a limited number of theaters in the “preview”, and in wide release will be released only on the 11th, but the first reviews (you can monitor them, for example, on the website of Megacrystic and similar resources) that local judges accept the impending premiere quite favorably.

The plot of the story, it seems, would be perfect for the movie a completely different genre. Black guy Dating a white girl. And all of them well, that’s just looming inevitable meet the parents of the girl… Comedy and variations on the theme “how to make a tough choice, made by your grown-up child” produced from “Father of the bride” almost every year. From to, more recently, “Why him?” with James Franco and Bryan Cranston. Jordan Drank from his experience in the satire, I would be able to make something similar one left at the lunch break between the filming of some Comedy show. However, inspired by the theme of Drinking decided to reveal her seriously, and therefore went far beyond Comedy and directed a real horror movie (a Comedy, however, survived, but these few episodes strictly metered, and most importantly – truly funny, and therefore allow the audience to relax at certain points). And smart horror film with a great script, great acting and powerful suspense.

Not so surprisingly, by and large. Comedy and horror genres at the same time distant and very close to each other. Parts, of course, the simple fact that Comedy is designed to entertain the audience, while the horror is fear. But it’s their and have in common: both there and here at the forefront are first of all emotions, not entertainment, action or anything else. Because in the history of cinema and literature we can find many kind of steam when on the ground and removed the Comedy, and horror. I’m not talking about prevalence and the popularity of this mixing of genres as “Comedy horror”.

And still the Saw movie stands out from many others. The Director himself admitted that brought up on genre films and equally likes both humor and suspense. Looking back, I realize that to compare “Off” should not “split”, and from classic films by Alfred Hitchcock. Just amazing that in our time the “king of suspense” was a truly worthy disciple. And Yes, the pupil is black.

The hero of the picture, a guy named Chris, clearly feels at ease.

They say that “Away” is worth watching, if you more or less tolerant person in life. This is not so. “Off” can and should watch, regardless of how you feel about blacks, Jews, women, gays (or blacks Jewish women-lesbians, after all). Perhaps even devout racists this movie is showing in the first place and mandatory. And not because Peale demonstrates his painting some wild horrors of overt racism. Far from it: local villains, in General, belong to the breed of liberal citizens, and their tolerance sometimes takes the form of fun. In one scene, the main character, Chris, make it clear that they did not despise him because he is black. It does not matter, important other qualities of Chris – they make him a victim, and skin color – rather a concomitant circumstance. Here do not run with the white robes on their heads and no one is burning crosses in front of the house African American, no. It’s something cool: Drink shows white people as they (i.e. we) are in the majority and are. Normal. Quite a tolerant. Maybe allow yourself some light-natured joke on the part of the “coloureds” (“these armyashek”, “these Muslim”, “these Gaster” – choose what suits you best), but not experiencing – really experiencing! no fierce hatred of the objects of these jokes.

Peel and honest in how it shows African Americans: those, too, are different and not every black is willing to believe another black… But, in General, it is obvious that the racism, which says we are “Away” – it’s not racism at all. It is something like the features of the clash of different cultures at the household level. Here is something to think about, but really a great movie, “Away” does not this. Or not only that.

What lies behind the polite smiles of those damn white?

It is also said that “Away” is to look only provided that you do not know what the twist will make the story closer to the final. Completely disagree, at least for the simple reason that guessed the “twist” long before the moment happens. But the feelings of it does not spoil. Again and again, comparing the job Saw with Hitchcock’s films, think of “Psycho”: who among us has not watched this movie, knowing that Norman Bates has a split personality? And is that someone a bad impression? Does anyone know the twist stopping to enjoy the outstanding directing, music, plot, acting performances?..

The same is true for “Off”. Like Hitchcock, MPI builds such suspense that the screen is hard to put down. The script of “Away” is almost perfect. If you’re not very attentive while watching, then be sure to watch the movie again. And again. Almost certainly you will find new nuances, new small circuits, which in the story plays a role. Here the frame appears colorful tertiary character – a blind art critic, admires the works of our hero (Chris photography), about which he “spoke”. You think: “Wow, what a bright man introduced for such a small role!”. Admire… and then it turns out that the role is not so small, and everything we know about this character is actually very, very important.

Do not think that “Away” is dull and boring “author” films. If in the first part of the ball is ruled by Her Majesty, the Atmosphere and Her Ladyship’s a Mystery that will continue and just eerie, frightening episodes, and then the story turns straight to the bloody and energetic finale.

Is with all this “Off” unambiguous genre masterpiece that will continue to enter into all sorts of tops the “most scariest horror movies”? No. Avid fan of horror will not be utterly terrified, but still, as your humble servant, making the tape highly. For the script, kichkovsky suspense, a healthy sense of humor, for meaning, for a reasonable amount of tin and a couple of creepy scenes. “Away” is difficult to enroll in the absolute masterpieces of the genre, how difficult it is to attribute to them “the Conjuring” by James WAN (if that – these films have nothing in common with each other, but they are the same in the other, that…): both just done is so clever, so much fun that will be remembered as fine examples of a genre film.

So, come and see. It’s worth it.
