You know, the very fact that we are still talking about the film, which premiered in January, evidence in favor of this film. Hence, there is reason to say, isn’t it? About domestic horror “Bride” we talked about in spring, when this movie suddenly decided to drive marasmius prosectute of the BER. The success of “Bride” in the international rental rejoiced recently. But here’s what I’ve always been confused about this project is that it is called the “most successful Russian horror”. In a commercial sense successful, that is the highest grossing, most profitable.
To “Bride” as such, by the way, rightly called a different picture of the young Director Svyatoslav Podvoiskogo, “the Queen of spades: Black rite”. Indeed, if you believe the well-known online IMDb, the budget of the “ladies” – 45 million rubles, and the cash charges in Russia amounted to nearly 140 million.
Many people know the formula of calculation of the profitability of a movie. It is, of course, does not take into account a lot of nuances, but in General – is correct. This formula is simple – take the total amount of fees and divide by two, we get real income for the creators, the producers of the film. Why divide into two, clear – half of the dues goes to the theater owners.
So, according to this formula, the income from the “ladies” made 70 million rubles. Minus 45 million budget resulting in a net profit from this film was in the region of 25 million rubles, which is undoubtedly a very real success. Plus the car in a few foreign countries, plus releases on DVD and Blu Ray – “Queen of spades” do kommercheski a successful project.
But the film, about which we can not forget, with the “Bride” – the figures “do not fight”. On the one hand, charges of “Bridesmaid” was more than the fees, “ladies” – about 179 million rubles only in the distribution. But even if we round this figure in a big way, to 180 million – “the most successful” the film does not work, because according to the IMDb, which reprinted dozens of other sites that have the “Bride” was the budget, maybe more, and even in advertising had invested huge money.
Specifically, we are talking about a budget of 70 million rubles, plus 50 million on advertising, a total of 120 million. Applying the above mentioned formula, we realize that any success (even more so on “really”) speech can not go, as the film is, in fact, must be unprofitable, because in order to recoup the costs he had to collect at least 240 million.
Even if you don’t count the budget on advertising, you still get that success not so great in comparison with the same “lady” and is less than 30 million rubles.
So why did this film called “the most successful Russian horror”? Or are we just fooling, for some reason, in hindsight PR “Bride”?..
Not so long ago were able to talk about it (or more precisely FOR THIS REASON TOO) with the people most directly involved in the creation of “Queen of spades”, “Bride”. And that’s what it became.
Turns out the site Kinopoisk gives is absolutely wrong, is very high as data about the budget of the film and the cost of its advertising.
The REAL production budget of the film was not 70, but only 50 million rubles, of which part was received as support from the Russian Cinema Fund (part – in the form of repayable loans). The exact figures of the advertising budget we are not voiced as they are in some sense a trade secret, but convinced that they are less – SIGNIFICANTLY less than the numbers picked up somewhere Kinopoisk.
And what happens? And it turns out that with a budget of 50 million or more (sum up with an advertising budget, subtract some financial support from the Russian Cinema Fund) in the case of the Bride speech can go only from net profit from the rental of Russia in the amount of about 70-80 million rubles. What is really much more than the profit from the Queen of spades. Even if this figure to reduce by 10-20 million, we still get almost two times more than it brought the previous film Podrevskogo.
It follows two conclusions:
1. It is not always possible and necessary to believe the data offered by the website of Kinopoisk (well, anything can happen, which is already there);
2. “Bride” not in words, but in fact is really most successful Russian horror movie.
