BMW started road tests of the i8 with a folding top. First images of hybrid Roadster published edition of Auto Express. The official premiere of the car will take place next year.
In addition to the folding roof, the car will get improved security, as well as minor changes to the powertrain and batteries. In addition, the novelty will feature an updated infotainment system with the technology of gesture control.
The power plant standard version of the hybrid coupe consists of a three-cylinder 1.5 liter gasoline engine 231 HP, which transmits a torque of 320 Nm at the rear wheels, and electric motor producing 131 HP, torque front wheels. At full recoil the car is all-wheel drive. The total power is 362 horsepower. However, it is not excluded that these indicators in the Roadster will be increased to 420 horsepower.
In addition, BMW will develop an updated version of the hybrid coupe i8. As reported by Motor1, the premiere could take place before the end of this year. The car will get a modified battery. Power plant capacity will increase by 15 HP and will be 372 horsepower.
The dynamic characteristics of the coupe are still kept secret. Before the upgrade, the model reaches 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. It is expected that the novelty will surpass these figures. Also the coupe will increase the reserve.
