The Prosecutor’s office of Belgium requires the court’s permission for extradition of ex-President of Catalonia Carles Pokdemon and four former Ministers in the Catalan government, who are currently in hiding in Brussels.
The next hearing regarding this case will be on December 4, reports the correspondent of UKRINFORM in Brussels.
On Friday, the Brussels court of first instance (the Flemish chamber) considered the European arrest warrant and the extradition of five Catalan politicians, who in Spain are accused of preparing rebellion, insurgency, misappropriation of public funds and contempt.
Under Spanish law, these crimes are punishable up to 30 years in prison.
On November 17 the Prosecutor’s office of Belgium supported the Spanish request and requires the extradition of Catalan politicians.
The Brussels court will continue the trial on 4 December.
As reported, in early November in Brussels the Catalan policy-fugitives voluntarily surrendered to the Belgian law enforcement authorities and was arrested. At the same time, the investigating judge released them from custody, forbidden to leave Belgium without permission.
As stated previously, Putteman, he is not going to ask Belgium for political asylum.
In case of disagreement with the decisions of the court of first instance Catalan politicians have the right to appeal in the appellate and cassation order.
