The foreign Ministry said it was ready to cooperate with Europe.
Council of the European Union extended sanctions against Belarus for another year. The decision will be valid until 28 February 2018.
This was reported in the press service of the EU Council.
As before, the restrictions include an embargo on weapons trade, freezing of Bank assets and a ban on travel to the EU for four people suspected of involvement in the disappearance of two opposition leaders.
– The Council decided to extend the restrictive measures against Belarus until 28 February 2018. These measures include an embargo on arms supplies, freezing of assets and travel bans against four persons As specified in the Council conclusions of 15 February 2016, the adoption by Belarus of specific measures concerning respect for fundamental freedoms, the rule of law, human rights remains the main criterion for the definition of future EU policy towards this country, — is told in the message.
Following this decision followed a review of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Belarus, where expressed hope for a full abolition of restrictions.
We initially assume that the sanctions are unfair and counterproductive. The extension of the remaining restrictions in respect of our country in the form of arms embargo and sanctions against the four individuals for the next year not in the spirit of cooperation between Belarus and the European Union, – said the press Secretary of the foreign Ministry of Belarus Mironchik.
He also noted the release of supplies of equipment for biathlon.
– We expect that a positive step of the European Union on the abolition of the remaining restrictions will be followed by more decisive measures, which will finally leave behind the policy of pressure on Belarus is a responsible partner and neighbor of the European Union, – said Mironchik.
