Behind the scenes: How Sigourney weaver was selected for the role Ripley

Now she’s the star and veteran of genre cinema, and once her role in the first “Alien” could accrue to the actor, the man. Talk about how Sigourney weaver became Ripley and show rare video of her acting auditions for this role.

To begin with, the script of “Jaws” in space” – described the plot of one of the assistant producer Walter hill – was written by Dan O’bannon and Ronald Suzetta, but very much modified by the producers, and then the Director. In the first version of a script, all the characters had those names and was set in such a way that they could play as male or female, but the character of Ripley was a man and only a man.

Ridley Scott, when engaged in the project, decided that Ripley will be a lady. However, a month before the start of filming from Ridley wasn’t an actress! This role was offered to Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep, but in the end almost opted for Veronica Cartwright. Candidate weaver was regarded rather as one of the replacement options.

However, the producers and Director was impressed with the recording screen tests of Sigourney. Ridley Scott, having some doubts, also showed a video of several ladies from the production Department of 20th Century Fox in order to know the opinion of women about the game of Sigourney. Everyone was happy, except, perhaps, Veronica Cartwright – the poor thing was given the role of the second plan, and that the main role goes not to her, Cartwright learned “after the fact”, when she was summoned to try on costumes.
