Chairman of energy Committee of state Duma Pavel Zavalny commented on the statement of President Poroshenko that Ukraine is ready to buy Russian gas, if it is cheap.
“We have never denied Ukraine the gas supplies. The gas that they buy re-export, in fact, Russian. It is more expensive than gas, which they could buy in Russia, somewhere in the $20 per thousand cubic meters. If the average price of our gas is about $190-195, they bought one that costs more than $200, and lost tens of millions of dollars”, — said zavalna.
According to him, Ukraine has the obligation to purchase not less than 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, and Russia, in turn, was obliged to sell gas to Ukraine at a tied to European hub price.
