The European Union should reconsider its policy of sanctions against Russia because of economic restrictive measures are unable to improve the situation in Ukraine.
This was stated on Thursday, Chancellor of Austria, Christian Kern in an interview.
“The idea that after the imposition of sanctions we can come to a good end with Russia has not worked,” said Kern. “I think we need a different approach,” he added. According to policy, we need to think about other ways of influence on Russia that will be less damaging to the European economy.
Kern also affirmatively answered the question whether it supports partial lifting of sanctions against Russia with progress in the framework of the Minsk agreements. “You have to understand that the lifting of sanctions should proceed in parallel with the observance of the Minsk agreements”, – said the head of government.
As stressed by the Chancellor, sanctions hurt the economy of Austria. “We are not happy economic consequences,” he added.
