Scientists hope to test fundamental theories about the physics of black holes.
Until April 14, scientists expect to image the event horizon of a black hole. The so-called limit, beyond which matter or radiation have no chance to return.
Previously, scientists have studied black holes only by circumstantial evidence, in particular on the measurement of gravitational waves.
The work on the snapshot creation began on 4 April and will last until April 14. Scientists using a telescope Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) I hope to test fundamental theories about the physics of black holes on the example of an object in the constellation of Sagittarius.
The basis of the EHT is the so-called technology of interferometry with long base, allowing to unite in a global network of many ground-based telescopes, thus creating one giant telescope the size of the Earth. Power such systems should cover in order to look into the heart of the milky Way and to make a unique picture, albeit at a very acute angle.
Range radio observations of selected 1,3-millimeter range, which, according to astrophysicists, can enlighten any accumulations of gas and dust around the black hole. By the way, according to scientists, the mass of the black hole exceeds the mass of the Sun is 20 million times.
