The head of the Central Bank of Syria Duraid Durham on Sunday announced the introduction of a new 2 thousand Syrian pounds banknote, which depicts a portrait of President Bashar al-Assad.
She will go to Damascus and the provinces, which are under the control of the government.
Durham said that the new pound was printed a few years ago, but the introduction was delayed because of the war and jumps of the course.
2000 Syrian pounds – about $ 4. The Syrian currency is heavily devalued as a result of war. In 2010 the dollar was worth around 47 Syrian pounds, and now – about 500.
Previously, the largest bill in Syria was a thousand pounds.
