New attack drone “Turtledove” has been successfully tested near Kiev.
At the airport “Gostomel” under the Kiev state enterprise “Antonov” has tested a new tactical attack drone “Turtledove”, developed by Ukrainian pilots. About it reports a press-service of “Ukroboronprom”.
“Today completed the first flight tests of UAVs have tactical level “Turtledove”, developed by our Antonov. This UAV is able to stay in flight for 7 hours, work at a height of 5 thousand meters, and the range of its flight more than a thousand kilometers,” – said the Secretary of national security and defense Alexander Turchinov, who was present at the trials.
According to him, that drones and the future belongs.
“As soon as we work out the tactical and operational level, the next step is to create a UAV strategic level”, – said Turchinov.
Its technical characteristics Ukrainian drone is able to perform a variety of tasks: conduct reconnaissance, coordinate fire, to apply fire damage to the enemy using missiles “air-land”.
The uniqueness of the “Doves” is that it became the first domestic development, which in its capacity is able to bear the shock load.
Now, such devices produce only a few countries of the world: USA, Israel, Italy, France, China and Turkey, while the development of such systems usually require multi-million dollar investments and the timing for about five years.
“Turtledove” is designed to assist Land forces of VSU in conducting reconnaissance of the day and night in all weather conditions, and also transfer the received information to the command post.
In comparison with other UAV, it can carry out air reconnaissance over a long period of time, and a tactical radius of action is 120 km, while “Turtledove” develops a speed of 230 km/h.
New drone able to conduct optoelectronic reconnaissance in the visible and infrared range, to automatically recognize, capture and escort a moving target and managed to direct precision-guided munitions. Using “turtle Doves” can be arranged operational communications and support combat units in the tactical rear of the enemy.
