The diplomat has warned Ukraine about the threat of “legal” occupation of Donbass.
The placement of the peacekeeping mission of the United Nations only at the contact line in the Donbas will lead to “legalization” of the occupation of Donbass.
This opinion was expressed by extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine, former representative of Ukraine to the Council of the United Nations human rights Vladimir Vasilenko.
“The idea of a peacekeeping mission has the right to life. But it all depends on the modality of operation and the powers of peacekeepers. If the purpose of this mission will be a complete de-occupation of Donbass is one thing. And if it is agreed upon on the terms of Russia, it will lead to “legalization” Putin’s occupation and complete “freezing” of the conflict”, – said Vasilenko.
According to him, the mission should run on all occupied territory and to have extensive powers.
