The European Union will allocate 120 million euros for the creation of a network of free Wi-Fi access points throughout. Terminals wireless Internet should appear in 6-8 thousands of European settlements, particularly in parks, hospitals, museums, schools and public transport.
Municipalities and public institutions will be able online to apply for funds under this program. They must provide Wi-Fi terminals for at least three years.
According to the EU Commissioner for the digital economy Mary Gabriel, the authorities of the towns and villages themselves will determine where to place the terminals in the first place. The goal of the program is to extend the Internet primarily sparsely populated regions.
The use of free Internet for citizens will be as easy, said Gabriel. You only need to register once and then use points “wifi4eu” across the EU.
According to plans, the terminal wireless Internet in the framework of the programmes will commence in 2018.
