“AvtoVAZ” from mid-September for an indefinite period will reduce the speed of some of the lines in Togliatti, in response to the weakening demand in the auto market.

It is first and foremost about the conveyors, which collect models on a common platform of the Alliance Renault-Nissan — B0 (Lada Xray, Lada Largus, Renault Logan, Renault Sandero and the cross version Stepway) and 4×4 SUVs, reports the newspaper “Vedomosti”, citing a number of sources.

The representative of AVTOVAZ did not speak to the publication about the production plans of the plant, but stressed that the production flexibly adapts to the demand. He assured that the staff reductions are planned.

Meanwhile, due to falling demand, the joint venture “AVTOVAZ” and GM (produces Chevrolet) also plans to cut production and would suspend production of cars from 2nd to 6th September, notes TASS.

Recall that, according to the Committee automakers Association of European businesses (AEB), sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in Russia was in July 2019 139,968 thousand units, which is 2.4% less than in the same period last year. For the first 7 months of this year were sold in Russia 968,718 thousand cars and LCV (minus 2.4% in annual terms).
