The merger of the two largest groups of sunspots was the most powerful flare in the past 12 years.
Head of the Center for space weather of Institute of terrestrial magnetism, ionosphere and radio wave propagation named Pushkov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IZMIRAN) Sergey Gaydash told about the deteriorating relations in the United States and Europe after the last solar flare.
“Flash has already given the deterioration in the quality of connections in Europe and America,” — said the expert. According to him, “it threatens the bounce space technology and communication systems”, and its power is estimated as close to the maximum is X9,3 (letter denotes the class of extreme flares, and the number of the power of the flash)”.
On 6 September it was reported that the merger of the two largest groups of sunspots was the most powerful flare in the past 12 years which belongs to the class X. the event was rated a score of 9.3, making the outbreak one of the five powerful explosions in the Sun in the entire history of observations.
The most powerful flares observed on the Sun, emit into the environment tremendous energy. A few minutes into the open space goes up to a trillion megatons of TNT. This is about the fifth part of the energy radiated by the Sun per second, and all the energy that will develop people in a million years (subject to its production with modern pace).
