The human rights center “memorial” has published an updated list of political prisoners in Russia. They include 314 names. “Of these, 250 persons deprived of liberty for the realization of the right to freedom of religion or religious affiliation, and 64 — for political reasons,” reads a press release of human rights defenders.
In the “Memorial” emphasizes that the lists are only “minimum estimation of the extent of political repression” in the country. They contain only those citizens whose cases human rights defenders have to perform, after which conclusions were drawn about the politically motivated and illegal nature of criminal prosecution. This year the number of political prisoners has increased markedly.
Only in the last two months, “memorial” submitted their lists of defendants in the high profile case “Web”: Maxim Ivankina, Mikhail Kulkov, Basil Kuksov, Dmitri Pchelintseva, Arman sagynbaeva, Andrey Chernov, Ilya Shaturskogo and Igor Shishkin. Lists joined the defendants in the “Moscow business” — Andrew Barshay, Yegor Forest, Martintsov Maxim and Vladislav Tit. In addition, political prisoners are referred 11 people who were accused of involvement in the Islamist organization “Hizb ut-Takhrir” prohibited in Russia.
Earlier lists included the defendants in the case of the “New grandeur” and the movement “Barrage”. “Memorial” demands from the Russian authorities to immediately release all political prisoners.
