The ex-President of Ukraine sent an open letter to world leaders.
Former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych proposed to hold a referendum on the status of Donbass, in the case that measures to resolve the conflict in the East of Ukraine will not bring the desired result.
This is stated in his open letter sent to the leaders of the United States, Russia, France, Germany and Poland, leaders of public organizations.
“Include in the negotiations in the “Norman format” representatives of the protesting parties, representing the people of Donbass, and in the event of failure of the current Ukrainian authorities of the Minsk agreements to initiate a referendum on the status of Donbass”, – wrote Yanukovych.
He also proposed “to initiate the creation of a special Commission of the Council of Europe for monitoring of investigations into crimes committed on the Maidan, according to paragraph 4 of the Agreement on settlement of political crisis in Ukraine of 21 February 2014”.
In addition, the former President of Ukraine urged to demand from the Ukrainian authorities to allow representatives of the special Commission of the Council of Europe and representatives of the current Ukrainian opposition to monitoring of the investigation “of crimes committed in Ukraine since 2014 to the present time.”
“Demand from Ukrainian authorities to start a real investigation of the murders and other serious crimes committed on the Maidan against police officers performing their duties in maintaining public order and the protection of the constitutional order of Ukraine. Also to demand from the Ukrainian authorities to cancel the law of Ukraine “On preventing the prosecution and punishment of persons regarding the events that took place during holding peaceful assemblies, and recognizing certain laws of Ukraine as such that lost effect” No. 743-VII of February 21, 2014″, – stated in the text of the message.
