The Belgian Prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into the disappearance of billions of euros from frozen accounts of slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. About it reports TV channel RTBF.
According to the channel, from the accounts that have been frozen in accordance with sanctions of the UN in 2011, could pay up to 5 billion euros of interest and dividends.
According to one version, the money could be used to Finance Libyan militias accused of human rights violations, reports Reuters.
RTBF said that Belgium at the request of the UN froze the deposits of the Gaddafi regime in foreign banks, but the UN ban did not apply to payments of interest and dividends on deposits.
