The second racket of Ukraine Lesya Tsurenko repeated yesterday’s achievement of Elina Svitolina, failing for the first time in his career to reach the third round of Wimbledon.
On the way to a personal record at Wimbledon Tsurenko had to beat the 73-th racket of the world Victoria Golubich – one of the few players in the WTA tour, playing one-handed belhanda.
In the opening match, everything went according to the script, Tsurenko Lesya has made two breaks, and on his serve and lost only four goals. In the second set already Golubich showed the opponent that is also able to win the set for a few minutes, Victoria made three breaks with one missed game on his serve.
The deciding set turned into a battle of nerves – tennis players prefer lingering jokes and rarely resorted to an aggressive game. The key moment occurred in the fifth game – Tsurenko made a break, then my feed went from double break-point and easy pressurized Golubich.
This win Tsurenko makes a very serious bid for his debut getting into the top 30 WTA rankings. In the online version of the world classification of the Ukrainian climbed to 29th position.
For an exit in the 1/8 finals Lesia, Tsurenko will play against the winner of the match between the third racket of the world of Karolina Pliskova and tennis player from Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova.
