A selection of photos taken prior to 1949.

Rare photographs of China, made before 1949, is interesting evidence of original culture, which have not affected the process of globalization. Bandaged legs in women, men with long braids, actors, and musicians in traditional attire, warriors in armour… All this can be seen in this fascinating slideshow.

Not to say that China is the only country that has experienced a fundamental transformation in the twentieth century. The process of globalization has absorbed many of the original culture, traditions and customs of the “old world” was destroyed and recreated again. However, China is one of the most heavily altered States.
