The Arsenal defender Per Mertezaker at the age of 32 decided to hang up his boots.
The last match in the career Mertezaker played at Wembley in the FA Cup final – former Germany defender helped Arsenal to beat Chelsea and win the only trophy in the season.
“I was very lucky with my career, and I want to end it on a positive note. I still have the motivation to play, but I can’t go on the field every three days.
Victory in the FA Cup will be a great end of a career. Arsenal want to keep me in the club, we negotiate. It will be administrative work, so I’ll stay at the club, but in a different role,” said Mertezaker on German TV channel “Sport1”.
Mertezaker is a graduate of Hannover. In the home team’s Central defender played from 2003 to 2006, and then spent five years in Bremen “the Werder”.
At the end of August 2011 Mertezaker moved to the “Arsenal” in London the German has played 210 games, scoring eight goals and won four trophies.
In the German national team Per Mertezaker in 2014 became the world champion. In the international arena, the six-foot defender has played 104 matches and scored four goals.
