Locals call it “the Portal” or simply “Hole”
The Soviet era left us with many mysteries and riddles, and the remoter the region, the more of them. This secret, at that time, the facility is located a few kilometers from the airport of Anadyr, which were the airfields for long-range strategic aviation of the USSR.
Here, according to the plans of the military, the aircraft had to take nuclear ammunition for delivery to the US territory, which is to fly less hours.
So, after threats of N.With. Khrushchev the Americans, “…and the rockets have and Chukotka is…” began construction of a secret military camp near Anadyr. Missiles were not there then, but in 1961 a military camp, which later became known as Hudyma was built. According to popular belief, the name it takes from the first the chief town of Colonel Hudyma, who, incidentally, committed suicide after the completion of construction, although the fact of suicide is still not proven.
To confuse Western intelligence agencies this place has had many names: Magadan-11, Anadyr-1, Object, GUDY. Local call it “the Portal” or simply “Hole”.
And here, we’re there. Kilometer-long tunnel carved in the rocks of Chukotka. According to one version – the main purpose of the facility: storing and maintaining nuclear warheads for missile complex medium-range RSD-10 “pioneer”, according to NATO specification SS-20. But to carry missiles on the streets no reason. I am sure that mine was and is on conservation in the hole.
In base are two entrances, for some reason marked “Inlet 14” and “Entrance 15”. Why this numbering, and the rest of the inputs, no one knows. The object was divided into levels of access for staff, so even the local specialists didn’t know the full location of all objects in the hole. Conscripts were engaged only in protection of the object, the rest of them was a mystery.
In this place we left had brought us here the Car, switched on their flashlights and entered into the secret facility. Damn, how much people’s money spent on construction of this object? And how many more?
Inside pitch dark, humid and temperatures around 10 degrees.
Lighting, of course, de-energized for a long time, the wires cut and put on the local nonferrous metal.
The object has full nuclear protection, the weight of the armored doors of up to 40 tons.
We go in depth of the object. Around the silence. Unwittingly comes the idea that in such places need to be afraid of people. Lockout, and no one even knows where your bird. The nearest town is about 40 km, and “visitors” here.
The first from the entrance of the area equipment to sustain the personnel. Powerful engines was pumped into the secret portal to the filtered and heated air from the street.
Now all the equipment is abandoned.

In one of the rooms, which there are a great many, we found something similar to node. A huge number of brand new vacuum tubes, and the production of the VEF.
From the main tunnel many branches. We went to almost all, but some were closed permogorye. Behind them remained a mystery. After the withdrawal of nuclear weapons the city existed for more than two decades. What did the military in Chukotka wilderness? It seems to me that there was maintenance of equipment and concreting the fact that, perhaps hidden in the “Portal” to this day. Hence the strange numbering of the inputs. For such a huge object could not be only two.
In one of the rooms we found boxes with fired cartridge cases and empty boxes. We’ve even seen on the street, on the way to GUDY 2.
Apparently, this ship shells. After signing the Contract on liquidation of rockets of average and small range, under which the base had been emptied of all nuclear weapons, underground premises were used as database storage of the Anadyr military garrison.
Rechargeable. The air smelled of acid, and we hurried the hell out of here. Better safe, than sorry.
One control panel is likely just the power supply.
The walk took about 2 hours. We were afraid of high radiation, but taken along, the dosimeters did not even make a sound. That’s all. It’s time to exit. I would like to show more, but the pictures are very dark due to poor lighting.
