The name of the Ukrainian biathlete Vita Semerenko appear in the new doping scandal.
Informant world anti-doping Agency Grigory Rodchenkov, in an interview for “The New York Times” reported that in 2013 the former Deputy Minister of sports of Russia Yuri Nagornykh during the “Champions Race” in Moscow asked him to spoil the doping test Vita Semerenko.
“He was particularly concerned about the Ukrainian biathletes, who threw the Russians a serious challenge in the relay. But I couldn’t do with an innocent athlete. For my work I often said that dirty samples clean, but never Vice versa,” said Rodchenkov
Disqualification Semerenko was very beneficial for Russia, because before the Olympic games 2014 in Sochi women’s relay team of Ukraine on biathlon was considered the main rival of Russia. Moreover, Vita Semerenko in Sochi won the bronze medal in the sprint race. Recently this medal turned into silver after the disqualification of Russian Olga Vilukhina, which was accused of violating anti-doping rules.
The President of the biathlon Federation of Ukraine Grigory Brynzak has not ruled out the truthfulness of the story Rodchenkova, stressing that such a scenario really would be in favor of Russia.
