Victor Miller won the first trial over the rights to “Friday the 13th”!

The thing moved, and this is very pleasing. Because of rights issues stalled the entire franchise: not only movies, but also games.

We will remind, in the summer of 2016 Victor Miller, screenwriter of the original “Friday the 13th” 1980, filed for the return of rights to the plot and characters of this film. The benefit of the laws of the United States is left to the authors this opportunity can be availed only 35 years after the transfer of rights to third parties. This deals with Stephen king, for example. And Miller did the same. However, the Director of the said film by Sean S. Cunningham wanted and gave it to Miller’s court. The legal niceties that appealed lawyers Cunningham, Zone Horror already dismantled at the time. And here made the first decision: the judge sided with Victor Miller.

It is certainly not the last battle in court because of the old Jason Voorhees, but at least, something began to emerge.

Interestingly, even if the rights to “Friday,” we still have Miller, they will be distributed only on products created and sold in the USA. So for Cunningham not all that bad.

Anyway, will look forward to when this uncertainty will end and we will finally see the new film about the big guy in a hockey mask.
