The South American country made a loud statement.
The foreign Minister of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza called new U.S. sanctions “the worst aggression,” and expressed the country’s readiness to defend itself.
“The financial sanctions announced today is the worst aggression against Venezuela over the past 200 years,” said Arreaza reporters at the UN.
“We go to the regional elections in October, then we carry out the local election of mayors. Next year we will have presidential elections. This is democracy”, — he told reporters. The Minister said that he does not understand the intention of the U.S. to put Venezuela in the “strange light.” “Our position is clear, we will defend our people and our democracy by all the means we have,” said Arreaza on Friday.
As reported, the President of the United States Donald trump introduced on Friday new sanctions against Caracas. In particular, American companies were forbidden to enter into the transaction with new debt and securities issued by the government of Venezuela and the state oil company, with a maturity of more than 30 and 90 days, respectively. Also prohibited transactions with a number of existing debt obligations owned by Caracas, and receive dividends from the government of Venezuela.
