United States first tested a nuclear bomb with fighter

Thermonuclear B61-12 is planned to replace part of the American nuclear Arsenal.

The U.S. air force experienced 14 Mar uncharged thermonuclear bomb B61-12, dropping it from the F-16C on the ground in Nevada, according to the National administration for nuclear security of the United States.

The objective of the tests was to demonstrate the ability of the aircraft for the delivery of ammunition and to check the functioning of non-nuclear components of the projectile.

It is noted that the bomb was first tested with F-16C.

Nuclear bomb the B61 was developed in 1963. Current modification − already the twelfth in a row. Its feature was the tail Assembly, which makes the projectile manageable and precise and allows you to drop from a great height.

Mass production of the B61-12 should commence in 2020. In the case of successful tests it will replace four versions of the B61 bombs in the country’s nuclear Arsenal, as well as at bases in Europe.

Earlier it was reported that the us military has pioneered one of the most powerful non-nuclear bombs GBU-43/B, which is called in the U.S. “mother of all bombs” against Islamic state terrorists in Afghanistan.
