May the cold became the main reason of growth of unemployment in Russia in 2017. This is stated in the materials of the RF Ministry of economic development.
According to the Russian authorities, adjusted for the seasonality the level in may increased from 5.2 to 5.4%.
“Cold weather, estimated to have been the root cause of a certain increase in unemployment may result in lower-than-usual seasonal rise in employment in agriculture, and hotel and restaurant business”, — said the Ministry.
The most noticeable decline in the seasonal growth of employment was recorded in agriculture (minus 15.4 per cent year-on-year), trade, hotel and restaurant industry (minus 3.1%) and education (minus 1.4 percent). The total number of unemployed in Russia in may amounted to, according to the Ministry, and 4.1 million versus 3.9 million in the previous three months.
Earlier the MAYOR said that the extreme cold can contribute to increasing inflation.
