UN high Commissioner responded to Russia’s recognition of passports “LDNR”

This step complicates the Minsk peace process, believe in the organization.

Russia’s recognition of passports of the breakaway LDNR” may complicate the settlement of the conflict in the Donbas. This was stated by the UN high Commissioner for refugees Filippo Grandi in an interview with the Russian newspaper Kommersant.

“I don’t know. On the one hand, it is important that people have the documents. But, on the other hand, it is impossible that steps had been taken, which complicate the Minsk peace process. I’m not saying this so please don’t get me wrong. But we must remember that the main goal is to achieve a settlement,” he said.

Answering the question of whether these “documents” serve as something of Nansen passports, Grandi said, “And then, Nansen passports were issued to stateless persons without documents. And they were given a League of Nations.”
