Ukravtodor began to build speed limiters on the roads

Ukravtodor has launched a project of slowing street traffic.

State Agency of automobile roads of Ukraine (Ukravtodor) has embarked on a project to slow traffic traffic.

This was announced by the head of the company Slawomir Nowak, the press service of Ukravtodor.

“There are first positive results of the implementation of our safety improvement projects 4E (Engineering / Standards, Enforcement / Oversight, Emergency / Rescue, Education / Education). Hence – from the Poltava region – we are starting to implement measures to improve traffic safety, save lives,” he said.

It is noted that under the three-year national program to improve safety on the roads Ukravtodor plans to update the technical design standards and road construction, to automate the speed control of vehicles, equip 1 thousand ground pedestrian crossings with Islands of safety, lighting, road signs and markings, to build a bypass road from the settlements.

“This is the first example of the application of our strategy to improve safety. Islands is one of the engineering solutions, which you can see in many countries of the European Union. They reduce movement speed by 50% for the entrances to the settlements, and speed are the first enemy of traffic safety. We need to reduce speed on roads of Ukraine”, – quotes the words of Novak Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, he sent a letter to the Minister of infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan about the need to reduce traffic speed within settlements with 60 to 50 kilometers per hour.

“The Minister agrees. Hopefully, by the end of the year will complete this work. It will be a fundamental step towards improving traffic safety”, concluded Novak.
