Ukrainians Zantaraya and Bilodid – Champions of Europe on judo

Ukrainian athletes Georgiy Zantaraya and Daria Bilodid at the European Championships in Warsaw, won medals of the highest standard.

On the way to the quarterfinals Zantaraya won two hard-fought victory thanks to Vasari. In the 1/4 finals George coped with the Belarusian Dmitry Mink – fight lasted a little more than two minutes and ended with IPPON in favor of the Ukrainian.

At the semifinal stage on Zantaraya class was Slovak matej Pole, and in fight for gold in just 61 seconds to put on the blades of the Slovenian adriana Gombach. Ukrainian for the first time since 2011, became champion of the continent.

If George Zantaraya came to Warsaw already established athlete with a solid track record, something about Daria Bilodid was little is known, because 16-year-old judoist’s European championship was only the second adult tournament.

Bilodid on the way to the main victory of his career only started sensationally dealt with the leader of sowing Milieu Nikolic, and then stopped the experienced eve Chernivtsi, and in the ending in persistent struggle with the Russian Irina Dolgovoy managed in extra time to make the winning action.
