Lent begins tomorrow.
November 28, the Orthodox begins one of the most important post – Christmas.
Advent in 2017 will begin on Tuesday, November 28, and will end on Saturday January 6th. This post aims to purify the body and soul to one of the most important holidays in the Orthodox calendar of the Nativity.
Believers post conventionally divided into three stages:
from 28 November to 19 December (the day of St. Nicholas),
from 20 December to 1 January
from 2 to 6 January.

The diet of the person who is fasting, may include the following products: cereal, bread, crackers, vegetables, mushrooms, herbs, berries, fruits, dried fruits, nuts, seeds, honey, and some days fish, seafood, oil and even wine.
During lent can be eaten raw, boiled, steamed, roasted, savoury food. You can make salads, pickles and canned vegetables and fruits, soups, stews, casseroles, dumplings, vegetable pies and other pastries, juices, fruit drinks, jelly, tea.

From 28 November to 19 December 2017
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday – xerophagy. Is eaten food that has not gone through heat treatment. Resolved vegetables, fruits, nuts, mushrooms, honey.
Tuesdays and Thursdays hot food cooked in vegetable oil. Feel free to include in the diet cereals, and vegetarian soups.
Saturday and Sunday – menu you should follow on Tuesday and Thursday, add fish and wine.
4 December 2017 (Monday) is the feast of the presentation in the temple of the blessed virgin, therefore, allowed red wine.
From 20 December 2017 to 1 January 2018
Monday, Wednesday, Friday – xerophagy only.
Tuesday, Thursday and all weekend – hot food with vegetable oil.
From 1 January to 6 January 2018
After the New Year, allowed to drink a little red wine.
2 through 5 January 2018 post amplified and can not be used even fish.

Tuesday and Thursday – hot food without oil.
All weekend – hot food with vegetable oil.
On Christmas eve (6th January) – it is impossible to eat until the first star in the sky.
To break the fast with kutia – a ritual Ukrainian dish that consists of wheat or rice, soaked in water. To the pudding add honey, dried fruit, poppy seeds, raisins, nuts.
