Ukrainians reminded of the basic rules of lent

The most stringent is the last week before Easter – Holy week. On the first day after carnival Clean Monday and Good Friday the faithful don’t eat anything. On other days, Lenten menu is composed by the following rules.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday – xerophagy (the products that are not cooked and not fried – only bread, water, vegetables, fruit, honey, dried fruit).

Tuesday, Thursday – hot food, but without the addition of vegetable and even more so of butter.

Saturday, Sunday – food with vegetable oil.

Fish is allowed on the Annunciation (April 7) and palm Sunday (in 2017 9 April). On Lazarus Saturday (in 2017, 8 APR) allowed caviar. On good Friday (in 2017 April 14), you cannot eat until the shroud.

During lent one cannot eat meat and derivatives, milk and related to it products, eggs, and also prohibited to drink alcohol.

Friday, April 7 – xerophagy (the consumption of bread, raw vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, honey, nuts). Fish is allowed.

Saturday, April 8 – cooked food with the addition of vegetable oil, wine, eggs. Fish allowed caviar.

Sunday, April 9 – it is permitted to eat fish.

Holy week is a strict week of lent 2017 and each day carries its own name. It should also be noted that during Holy week the post is amplified and is really strict.

Monday, 10 April (Holy Monday) – xerophagy (the consumption of bread, raw vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, honey, nuts).

Tuesday, 11 April (Holy Tuesday) – xerophagy (the consumption of bread, raw vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, honey, nuts).

Wednesday, 12 April (Holy Wednesday) – xerophagy (the consumption of bread, raw vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, honey, nuts).

Thursday, 13 April (Maundy Thursday) – xerophagy (the consumption of bread, raw vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, honey, nuts).

Friday 14 April (good Friday) – total abstinence from food.

Saturday, April 15 (Holy Saturday) – xerophagy (the consumption of bread, raw vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, honey, nuts).

Sunday, April 16 (Resurrection of Christ) – Easter, the end of lent.

Note, apart from abstinence from food during lent 2016 need to keep ourselves from evil thoughts, negative emotions, foul language, swearing and scandals. During this period, believers must reflect on repentance and good in the world.
