MPs believe that the Ukrainian Church to autocephaly peacefully.
Members of Parliament have sent an open letter to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with a request to postpone the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church for the sake of peace. A letter signed by Andriy Derkach, James Bezbah, Andrei Shipko, Vasyl Horbal and Grigory Smityukh published on the website of the Browser.
MPs propose to consider the question of granting autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church after the presidential elections in 2019.
“We suggested to have a pan-Orthodox conference, in agreement with the Patriarch of Moscow to develop the Right approach, either granting autocephaly to the UOC or the location of the farmsteads of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on the territory of Ukraine (such already in fact exist here), or otherwise a joint solution that will help to heal the rift that will suit all and will reconcile all in the name of Salvation and for the good of Orthodoxy”, – said in the letter.
MPs asked not to take hasty decisions. “We urge maximum to weigh future historic step to avoid political speculations on this subject,” – noted in circulation.
The authors of the letter believe that a hasty decision on autocephaly confused by the majority of Orthodox in Ukraine.
Recall that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has appointed two representatives to prepare for the autocephaly of the UOC.
Later the Synod of ROC decided to stop participating in the structures under the chairmanship of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. In the temples of the Moscow Patriarchy will cease to mention the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in prayers. At the same time, the Eucharistic communion between the Patriarchates remains.
