The total loss of the banking sector of Ukraine in the 2016 reached its highest level in history – 159 billion. This is stated in the Overview of the banking sector on the website of the national Bank of Ukraine.
“In 2016, recorded historically high loss of the banking sector 159 billion, due to the redundancy of the credit portfolio of PrivatBank (136 billion) at the end of the year,” the review says.
It is noted that the remaining banks, the total loss was reduced to 23 billion UAH 66 billion in 2015.
The NBU predicts that in 2017, the banking sector may reach a profitable activity, but “without considering the factor PrivatBank”.
It is also reported that after the nationalization of PrivatBank, the share of state banks in the net assets increased to 51.3% (from 28.1% in early 2016), on deposits of the population – almost three times, to 59.5%.
