Ukraine decided on the programme of its chairmanship of the UN Security Council.
During the presidency of Ukraine in the UN security Council in February, the Ukrainian delegation will propose for discussion two thematic issues: the protection of critical infrastructure and conflict resolution in Europe.
In an interview with the Left Bank was announced by permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko.
According to him, the first theme – the protection of critical infrastructure, will be considered on February 13.
“Of course, this topic is very relevant primarily for Ukraine, but is no less relevant for many other countries,” – said Yelchenko.
At the debate, invited ad hoc experts from international organizations dealing with issues of threats in the relevant sectors of the economy: OSHS (Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons), the international Maritime organization, Interpol, etc. According to the results of the planned adoption of a special resolution.
The second theme conflict resolution in Europe proposed for consideration on February 21.
“It is not strange, but this question in General was not considered in the framework of the Security Council for 20 years. The last time it was about the same format, this was during the wars in the Balkans. And this is the mid-90s,” – said Yelchenko.
According to him, Ukraine the most in this debate are interested in how working or not working the conflict resolution mechanisms in Europe.
“For us it is important in the context of the situation in the Donbas. It is in the context that it was a European conflict that threatens not only Europe but the entire world. And that he was very far from settlement. For other countries, from almost all EU member States, also a huge interest in this topic… Will have the opportunity to again raise the question of the so-called “frozen conflicts,” – said Yelchenko.
He said that this discussion was invited by the EU high representative for foreign Affairs and security policy Mogherini, the Chairman of the OSCE, Minister for foreign Affairs of Austria Sebastian Kurz, Secretary General of the OSCE Janiero. Probably there will be more representatives of other European organizations.
