Putin said that Russia is ready to return to Ukraine of its military equipment from the Crimea.
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that Ukraine will not agree to Russia’s proposal that will cause harm to the legal position of the state in international courts.
He said this today in Kyiv at a joint press conference with Minister of foreign Affairs of Albania Ditmarom Bushati, commenting on the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the return to Ukraine of weapons and military equipment from annexed Crimea. “We’re not going to do anything that will endanger either of our political positions in occupied Crimea, or our legal position,” – said Klimkin.
According to him, under international law, weapons of the country can return after the end of hostilities. “If you refer to international law, there is known the Hague Convention, in particular the Hague Convention of 1907 on the law of war. It says that the weapon can be returned after the establishment of normal relations, peace,” – said Klimkin. “If Russia will use the fact some dialogue about a possible return of weapons, and we don’t know what this weapon is, in any condition, it will be for her a political and legal argument.
That’s what we are, by definition, not valid. This is an example of why it is so important to our political and legal position,” – said the Minister.
