Ukraine wants to explore Antarctica together with China, Malaysia and Turkey.
Ukraine will expand cooperation with Turkey, and will begin the partnership in the field of Antarctic studies with China and Malaysia. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of science and education of Ukraine.
“During bilateral meetings with the delegations of China and Malaysia, we have agreed to hold talks on cooperation and sign MOUs on scientific and technical cooperation in the field of Antarctic research,” – said the head of the Ukrainian delegation Dmitry Cheberkus.
With Turkey this Memorandum of understanding has already been signed, he recalled.
As Malaysia and Turkey do not own stations in Antarctica, they want to participate in research at the Ukrainian station “Academician Vernadsky”.
Cheberkus added that last year Turkish scientists have participated in short-term research projects on the basis of Ukrainian infrastructure.
Australia proposed to establish an intersessional contact group to discuss the challenges of Antarctic science. For Ukraine it is important because the location of the Ukrainian station “Academician Vernadsky” allows a unique observation: in this area there is more rapid melting of the ice cover.
