The lawsuit concerns the restrictions on import of Ukrainian food products.
Ukraine prepares claim against Russia to the world trade organization concerning restrictions of import of food products.
This was the first trade representative of Ukraine Natalia Nikolskaya.
“We are preparing another lawsuit, which is quite a long time talking. It is for us the most difficult from the point of view of collecting evidence. It concerns the restriction of import of food products, the so-called phytosanitary group, goods the importation of which is restricted by the sanitary norms”, – said Nicholas.
She noted that the Ukrainian side has long analyzed all those food products on which is imposed the restriction on imports, “and decided to limit ourselves to only those positions for which we have good evidence base”.
“We have already finalize a request for consultations on this matter and intend to submit in the near future”, – said the first trade representative of Ukraine.
She did not specify when it will be filed with the request. At the same time, she noted that the history of disputes of the Russian Federation on phytosanitary regulations indicates that Ukraine is not the first country that is experiencing this problem “and most of our predecessors defended their rights, that at least suggests that Russia really manipulates these standards, using them as an instrument of influence and blackmail, not security.”
According to Nicholas, has completed a similar case of the EU against Russia in favor of the EU. “The number of complaints that are voiced on the Committee, we can conclude that the policy of the Russian Federation sanitary rules and consumer protection are not balanced, even in those countries with which Russia is not outright opposition, what can we then say about the Ukraine?” – the official noted.
