However, the neonatal mortality rate is gradually decreasing every year.
Ukraine continues to lead on maternal mortality among European countries, according to the Representation of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine.
According to the international assessment, in 2015, Ukraine recorded 120 cases of maternal mortality, whereas in Poland – 12 in Romania and 56 in Germany and 42.
“Neonatal mortality remains much higher than in the countries of the European Union. In 2015 in Ukraine there were 2378 deaths of infants in the first 28 days of life, while in Poland – 1122, Romania – 1047, and in Germany – 1449 cases. In Ukraine, however, the neonatal mortality rate is gradually reduced every year”, – stated in the message.
According to the UNICEF study, the level of knowledge about the dangerous symptoms during pregnancy in Ukraine is very low. Only 23% of women and men know at least about three dangerous symptoms during pregnancy, and all six remember only 12% of respondents.
At the same time, less than half (45%) women attending the antenatal clinic until 11 weeks of pregnancy, and only a third of women attend courses pregnant women.
