The court notes significant increase in complaints that were filed in court during 2016.
The head of the ECHR, Guido Raimondi stated that Ukraine remained the leader in the number of complaints to the European court of human rights against the Ukrainian state.
The court notes significant increase in complaints that were filed in court in 2016, compared with the previous two years.
According to Raimondi, as of the end of 2016 the number of complaints pending in court, was 79 750, which is 23% higher than a year earlier (64850). Almost a quarter of them – against the state of Ukraine.
He said that the increase in the number of complaints primarily related to the situation in three countries: Hungary and Romania – because of complaints of conditions of detention in places of deprivation of liberty, and of Turkey in connection with the massive repression taking place in the country after a failed attempt of a military coup in July 2016.
