May 8, Ukrainians remember the victims of the Second world war.
Today Ukraine celebrates the Day of memory and reconciliation. The holiday is celebrated on the day of the capitulation of Nazi Germany on 8 may 1945.
The capitulation of the German armed forces was signed on may 7 in the French Reims, but it was ratified the next day in Berlin. Then in this case in many cities of Europe and the United States, there were mass celebrations.
22 November 2004, the UN General Assembly declared 8 and 9 may as days of remembrance and reconciliation and offers to celebrate either one of these days, or both, as the day of memory of victims of the Second world war.
For Ukraine it is a relatively new holiday that was established by the Verkhovna Rada only in 2015. According to the law, Ukraine has set may 8 as a Day of commemoration and reconciliation in honour of all victims of the Second world and will be celebrated annually. Simbolom Day of remembrance and reconciliation is the red poppy. Soviet symbols is prohibited.
9 of may in Ukraine is the state holiday – Day of Victory over Nazism in the Second world war.
Both days in the country – weekend. In Ukraine celebrations are held in honor of veterans, honored the memory of victims of war.
So, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on may 8 will open the photo exhibition the Fourth generation in the National Museum of history of Ukraine, and in the evening take part in the action the First minute of peace.
On Tuesday, may 9, the President will attend the ceremony of memory of victims in the area of Fame, also will take part in the adoption of the Military oath young replenishment of separate regiment of the President of Ukraine and the 101st separate brigade of General staff.
