Semyon Osipovich Friedland (1905-1964) was born in Kiev into a Jewish family. Three years after finishing school he got a job in a famous magazine “Ogonek”, where the work of first assistant to the photographer, then a photojournalist.
In 1932 he graduated from the cinematography Department of the State Institute of cinematography. During the great Patriotic war was fedorra of the Soviet information Bureau, and after the war returned to his “Spark”, where he headed the Department of photography.
