Turkey has notified Greece of the naval exercises, however the Greek government did not allow them.
A Turkish military vehicle as part of the exercises without the permission swam in Greek territorial waters and opened fire in the Eastern part of the island of Farmakonisi.
The Turkish authorities, following procedure, notified on the eve of Greece on conducting exercises at sea with the use of ammunition. In the alert, the Turkish side pointed out that teaching plans to the East of Farmakonisi. In response Greece has refused Turkey in the conduct of the exercise, as they affect the Greek territorial waters and are therefore legitimate.
Greece sent to the Farmakonisi artillery ship to monitor the Turkish ship until it left Greek waters.
