The city of al-Bab, the battle which lasted from August 2016, fully liberated by Turkish troops and allied rebels.
The commander of the Turkish army Hulusi Akar announced the end of operations for the liberation of the Syrian city of al-Bab from militants extremist group “Islamic state”, holding it with the end of 2013.
“I congratulate all of us with the final liberation of al-Baba”, – he told reporters, adding that engineers are now checking the city for the presence of mines and unexploded boepripasov.
According to Akara, since the beginning of operation “shield of the Euphrates”, which was part of the assault on al-Baba, have been killed almost three thousand fighters, and over 350 activists of the Kurdistan workers party, which Turkey declared a terrorist and banned.
Their own losses during the operation, the Turkish military estimated at about 60 people, most of them were killed during the assault on al-Baba.
The city of al-Bab, located just 30 km from the border with Turkey and is considered the last stronghold of the ISIS in Aleppo province in Northern Syria.
