For the semi-finals of the Kremlin Cup, Tsurenko competed with the 27-th racket of the world German Julia Gerges. Tennis players over the past year and a half conducted the fifth full-match. In personal meetings Tsurenko was leading 3:1, but the foot injury and the good form of a Gerges made the German favourite of the match.
At the start of the quarterfinals Tsurenko led 2:0, but soon the Ukrainian overtook prolonged recession. Gorges without any problems equalized and immediately went into the lead. The German, winning 6 of the next 7 games left starting set for themselves.
The second set was delayed for 71 minutes – Tsurenko fought for every ball, for which the audience has repeatedly rewarded her with applause. Yielding 2:4, Les could do a back break, but in the next game gave his serve and did not prevent a Gerges apply for the match.
For an exit in the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup Lesya Tsurenko has earned 100 rating points and more than 22-thousand dollars in prize money.
