The US President Donald trump called for Spain to stay United for a few days before the referendum on the independence of Catalonia.
“I can say, speaking only for myself, what I would like Spain continued to be United,” said trump during a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy at the White house.
The American leader noted that this issue “unfolded over the centuries”.
“I think that residents of Catalonia have been arguing about her. I’m sure if you had accurate numbers and accurate polls, you would see that they love their country,” added trump.
“They love Spain. And they won’t leave her. Therefore, I am for a United Spain. I really think that the people of Catalonia will remain with Spain. I think it would be foolish not to do so. Because we are talking about how to stay with really big, beautiful and very historical country”, – said the President of the United States.
