A strained relationship between the presidents threaten difficult situation for NATO.
The complex relationship between U.S. President Donald trump with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan threaten the existence of the military-political bloc of NATO. The situation can only get worse due to the fact that Washington supports the plans of the Kurds to establish their own state, opposed by Ankara.
This opinion was expressed by U.S. political scientist, Director of non-governmental organizations For a free Ukraine Jason Smart.
According to him, Ankara fears of education in the territory of neighbouring Iraq, an independent Kurdistan, because the Kurds are a minority in Turkey itself.
“The situation with the Kurds is very difficult. This nation has a right to their own state,” – said the expert.
“Due to the fact that trump Erdogan difficult relationship, the US will support the Kurds because that’s against Turkey,” said Smart.
“What does it mean for NATO? For NATO it will be worse than now”, – he stressed.
He recalled that trump has admitted that he does not see the existence of the Alliance any benefit. “Why do we need it? Why are we spending so much money there?” – said Smart.
“And the explosion of relations between Turkey and the US be bad for NATO,” added the analyst.
